Seabury Residents Join a Holiday Glee Chorus
‘Tis the season and the holiday spirit is alive and brimming over for Seabury’s active residents. The 65-member Sound of New England Chorus invited women who love to sing to join their “Holiday Glee Chorus,” learn two holiday songs, and perform with them at “A Gleeful Celebration,” a holiday performance on Sunday, December 4, at 3 PM at First Congregational Church in Bloomfield. Four Seabury residents, Joy Coughlin, Betsy Rich, Betsey Stevens, and Joan Sereda, were overjoyed to answer the call, as they were enamored by the opportunity to sing with an award-winning chorus. They will also be joining ten other women “Gleebies,” as they are being affectionately called, from Connecticut and Massachusetts for this special opportunity to perform.
“Where, where, where do I sign up?” is how Betsy Rich replied when asked about her reaction to the invite to join a barbershop chorus. “Tremendous fun,” said Joan Sereda; “I’ve never had an opportunity to sing in the Barbershop style. It has been a wonderful adventure.” The four ladies will be singing with Seabury’s Executive Assistant, Chris Healy, who is a charter member of Sound of New England and has been singing with the chorus for 18 years.
The chorus is part of Sweet Adelines International, a worldwide organization of women singers of all ages committed to advancing the American musical art form of barbershop harmony through education and performance. They sing four-part harmony a capella.
Residents are encouraged to attend this free performance on 12/4 at 3 PM. The church hall doors open at 2:30 PM and seating is limited.
